The highly promising discussions focused on joint initiatives to promote the mining industry and the preparation of R&D projects, and continued into the late afternoon. The visit also included a tour of the “Stara Kopalnia” in Wałbrzych and the Health Resort in Szczawno-Zdrój, providing an opportunity to better understand the challenges faced by these institutions. This collaboration holds great potential, and both sites impress with their rich mining heritage and grandeur!

Smarter, safer, greener-that’s the shared vision behind the Horizon Europe project MINOTAUR Mining, where breakthrough robotics meets the future of sustainable raw material exploration.

Last week, we at Digital Mining Center had the pleasure of organising and hosting the consortium meeting in Wrocław 🇵🇱. Over three dynamic days, partners gathered at the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology of Wrocław University of Science and Technology for technical discussions, planning the following milestones for the innovative autonomous mineral exploration robotic tool and field visit to a drilling site.

The mission? To develop a compact robotic system that can explore deep boreholes, detect critical raw materials in real time, and seamlessly integrate data into a digital twin of the deposit – all while enhancing safety and reducing environmental impact.

Final MOIRA Project Workshop at Safran Tech – A Memorable Conclusion to a Great Collaboration

From February 18–20, 2025, we had the pleasure of attending the final Technical and Industrial Workshop of the #MOIRA project at Safran Tech, held under the Horizon 2020 European Training Network.

Over the course of three inspiring days, we connected with industrial and academic partners from across Europe to exchange ideas and advancements in predictive maintenance, signal processing, and artificial intelligence. A heartfelt thank you to Safran Aircraft Engines, our European partner organizations, and everyone who contributed to the engaging discussions. This event marked not just the end of a collaborative chapter but also a moment to reflect on the achievements we’ve made together, strengthen professional ties, and look ahead to future innovation in the field.

Celebrating Our PhD Graduates – A Proud Moment at Wrocław University of Science and Technology

On April 5th, the PhD Graduation Ceremony took place in Building A1 of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. This year, we proudly celebrated the graduation of two of our colleagues: Hamid Shiri and Mohammad Siami, who successfully completed their PhDs last year.

It was a wonderful ceremony filled with pride and joy. Hamid and Mohammad had the honour of receiving their diplomas from the Rector in the presence of their supervisors, making it an unforgettable milestone in their academic journey.

A heartfelt thank you to Professor Radosław Zimroz and Professor Agnieszka Wylomanska for attending the ceremony, not only as supervisors, but also in their esteemed roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology.

Let’s all extend our warmest congratulations to Hamid and Mohammad and wish them continued success in their future careers. And of course, fingers crossed for our current PhD students as they continue on their paths toward graduation!

DMC at 51st Ogólnopolskie Sympozjum Diagnostyka Maszyn in Wisła

From March 4–5, 2025, we had the pleasure of participating in the 51st Ogólnopolskie Sympozjum Diagnostyka Maszyn in the beautiful and peaceful city of Wisła, nestled in the heart of the mountains.

Over two inspiring days, we connected with academic and industrial partners, as well as old and new friends, from across Poland to share knowledge and perspectives on predictive maintenance, signal processing, and artificial intelligence.

Our group proudly presented four posters during the poster session, showcasing the cutting-edge work being done at the DMC Lab. It was a fantastic opportunity to spark meaningful discussions, exchange expertise, and explore new collaborations.

Beyond the technical sessions, it was also a moment to reconnect with colleagues, form new friendships, and enjoy the serene mountain atmosphere that made this symposium truly special.

DMC members published article in ISPRS

On November 9, 2024, members of the DMC (Digital Mining Center) research team from the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining, and Geology – comprising Przemysław Dąbek, Jacek Wodecki, Paulina Kujawa, Adam Wróblewski, Arkadiusz Macek, and Radosław Zimroz – published a scientific article titled “3D point cloud regularization method for uniform mesh generation of mining excavations. This geoinformatics-focused work was published in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, a journal with notable citation metrics (Cite Score: 21, Impact Factor: 10.6). The paper addresses the initial, automatic processing of spatial data obtained from laser scanning. The goal of the research was to create an algorithm capable of generating a mesh of sufficient quality for use in airflow simulations while preserving the actual geometry of the scanned excavation. The article is the result of work within the framework of the international research project VOT3D (Ventilation Optimizing Technology based on 3D Scanning).

DMC member is a flood leader in Kozanow

At the end of September, southern Poland, including Wroclaw, was struggling with flooding. We are not only involved in machinery and mining, but we are also water-related specialists. The posts on FB and forecasts of the flood leader in Kozanow (the most famous district of Wroclaw since the flood of 1997) and at the same time a member of DMC Dr. Krzysztof Chudy found appreciation among residents and allowed them to prepare calmly for the passage of the flood wave through Wroclaw.
