MINOTAUR Consortium Meeting in Lisbon

From 22 to 25 October 2025, partners of the MINOTAUR Project convened in Lisbon for a productive consortium meeting hosted by Instituto Superior Técnico – ID (IST-ID). The four-day event brought together representatives from all project partners to review progress, share technical insights, and plan the next phases of work towards more efficient and sustainable mineral exploration.

Wrocław University of Science and Technology (PWr) was represented by
Dr. Magdalena Worsa-Kozak, who leads the project at PWr, along with members of the project team: Prof. Radosław Zimroz, MSc. Adam Wróblewski, and Dr. Krzysztof Chudy. PWr plays a key role in the project as the coordinator of Work Package 1, which has just been completed, and is also responsible for Task 5.3 within Work Package 5.

MINOTAUR Project Showcased at IMWA 2025 in Braga

Exploration Innovation for Sustainable Mine Water Management

The MINOTAUR Project was prominently featured at the International Mine Water Association (IMWA) Conference, held in Braga, Portugal, from 6 to 11 July 2025. The event brought together over 300 participants representing more than 40 countries, and included 150 oral presentations and 46 posters focused on water management challenges and innovations in mining.

Business Brunch at International CloudEARTHi Conference

We had the pleasure of organizing a Business Brunch during the international CloudEARTHi Conference held in Wrocław on June 9–11, 2025

The event brought together experts from academia, business, and public institutions to discuss innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. Keynote speeches were delivered by representatives from EIT Raw Materials, LUT University, TerraEye, and ENERIS R&D. The brunch featured a dynamic panel discussion on intersectoral cooperation. 

Discussions highlighted the role of AI, secondary raw materials, and regional policy in supporting innovation ecosystems. The event provided a unique networking space for participants to exchange ideas and explore future collaboration.

 SURVISHNO conference

The SURVISHNO 2025 conference took place from May 21st to 23rd, 2025, in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. SURVISHNO is a joint organization of the Surveillance, VISHNO (Vibration Shocks and Noise), and EVA (Experimental Vibration Analysis) conferences. Its goal is to bring together experts working in both universities and industry who specialize in vibration and machine condition monitoring. The conference provided a forum for the latest advances in these fields. As part of a mini-grant awarded to PhD students at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology Doctoral School, Daniel Kuzio presented the results of his research on cyclostationary analysis of non-Gaussian signals, in particular, methods for improving the quality of cyclic spectral coherence maps through signal transformation.

Trutnov Revives Mining Tradition

On Friday, April 25, 2025, the rich history and beautiful customs of Czech mining were proudly celebrated.

Professor Radosław Zimroz was invited to attend the 136th edition of the traditional “Skok přes kůži” (Jump over the Leather), an annual event co-organized by VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. During the official ceremony, and after fulfilling all the customary rituals, Professor Zimroz was formally inducted into the Czech mining community.

It wasn’t an easy task – but he made it through!

A seminar entitled “Sustainable Lithium for Europe 2025” organized by the European Lithium Institute (eLi) was held in Brussels on May 15, 2025, bringing together more than 70 key representatives from industry, academia, and public administration involved in the development of the European lithium value chain.

Meeting of Strategic Partners for the Development and Promotion of Mining in Wałbrzych

On April 16, 2025, at the initiative of Professor Jerzy Detyna, Director of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (PWr) Branch in Wałbrzych, a meeting took place between representatives of the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology (WGGG) of PWr (Dean of the Faculty, Professor Radosław Zimroz, and Dr. Magdalena Worsa-Kozak) and the Mayor of Wałbrzych (Mr. Roman Szełemej), Deputy Mayor (Mr. Kacper Nogajczyk), representatives of the Center for Science, Culture, and Art “Stara Kopalnia” (Centrum Nauki i Sztuki Stara Kopalnia) in Wałbrzych (Mr. Jan Jędrasik – Director, Ms. Wioletta Wrona-Gaj – Head of the Museum of Industry and Technology), as well as the President of the Szczawno-Jedlina Health Resort (Mr. Krzysztof Urbański).

The highly promising discussions focused on joint initiatives to promote the mining industry and the preparation of R&D projects, and continued into the late afternoon. The visit also included a tour of the “Stara Kopalnia” in Wałbrzych and the Health Resort in Szczawno-Zdrój, providing an opportunity to better understand the challenges faced by these institutions. This collaboration holds great potential, and both sites impress with their rich mining heritage and grandeur!
