A seminar entitled “Sustainable Lithium for Europe 2025” organized by the European Lithium Institute (eLi) was held in Brussels on May 15, 2025, bringing together more than 70 key representatives from industry, academia, and public administration involved in the development of the European lithium value chain.
The presentation of the BrineRIS project results, focusing on identifying the potential of geothermal brines as a source of lithium in selected Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) countries in Southern and Eastern Europe, was particularly interesting to the participants.
Dr. Magdalena Worsa-Kozak, project manager, presented key results of the consortium’s work, such as the results of chemical analyses in partner countries and an interactive platform depicting the distribution of lithium concentrations in Europe, and emphasized the importance of the project for building a sustainable and resilient lithium supply chain in lower-tech regions.
The range of topics included:
- supply chain security and EU strategy,
- innovations in lithium recycling,
- practical workshops on eLi initiatives for 2025-2026.
